MY AD1 JOURNEY

Project 3 : Space and Sensory: Self - Exploration through Spaces [Sensory Space]

Task 1 : Re - Interpretation of Models from Project 1

For to first task, I was assigned to re-interpret, re-examine, and re-explore my models from project 1. I had to create a design intent and narrative based on my re-interpretation. I also had to develop it into an architectural experience of Path-Portal-Place.

Task 2 : Materials & Structure Research

After coming up with a design intent and concept, I had to select materials to be applied onto the re-interpretation of my 1:1 structure. The materials given were concrete, timber, steel, and glass. I studied my selected materials’ characteristics, properties, construction techniques, and sensorial qualities, and applied it to the creation of my spaces.

Task 3 : Idea Exploration & Test Models

After studying and researching about the materials, I had to further develop my designs and test my re-interpretation via a series of sketches and drawings. For this project, I had only produced one test model.

Task 4 : Drawing, Final Model Asembly and Presentation

After finalzing the ideas and model, I had to start drawing. I was required to draw a exploded axonometric as key drawings to show structure and joinery details, floor plan, section, and elevation of my design, explanations and designing progress diagrams. I had to compose the drawings onto a presentation board. Lastly, I had a presentation where I had to present my idea execution verbally via drawings and model.

My Progress

I was a little lost at first, therefore I am very thankful to my tutor for guiding me through and giving me a starting point to work with. It became a lot easier after researching and reading up some ideas. I also used Pinterest as my main source of pictures for inspiration. For this project, I only made one test model. I started to improve my model by receiving feedback and researching on how I can bring out each mood and feeling better. For this project, I learned a lot more about sensorial spaces as I studied on the materials. The process of making the models and drawings were time consuming, but it was still nice to see my outcome.

Reflection

TGC 2.0 : Lifelong Learning
TGC 3.0 : Thinking and Problem-Solving skills
TGC 6.0 : Intrapersonal Skills

From completing the final assignment, I have acquired all the Taylor's Graduate Capabilities (TGC)s above. First of all, I got to be able to be intellectually engaged by fully engaging myself in building an area only for myself. I also got to think critically and creatively, as there were a few problems that arose that required me to think outside the box, define and analyze problems to arrive at effective solutions. I also got to reflect one’s action and learning, by looking back at the design processes I have made. In conclusion, the whole process of this assignment was rather tiring, but I am glad as I got to showcase my ideas and creativity, while at the same time I got to further study about materials, as well as learn more about dimensions and spaces.
