MY AD1 JOURNEY

Project 1 :  Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements & Principles

Task 1 : Ordering Principle

For the first task, I was assigned to choose one ordering principle I wish to work with. My initial chosen ordering principle was hierarchy, but was later then changed to rhythm as my models suited it better.

Task 2 : Exploration and Combination

After selecting my ordering principles, I explored my chosen ordering principle in form and volume by making models. I made models for each of the design elements : point, line and plane.

After making the design elements models, I had to represent my chosen ordering principle in a combination of two or three of the primary elements in one more subsequent model.

Task 3: Tattoo Stamps

For this task, I had to draw, render and shade four tattoo stamps of my final combination model. The tattoo stamps has to be drawn in scale 1:1. The tattoo stamps drawn were of horizontal section (plan), vertical section (section), and elevation views.

My Progress

Since this was the first assignment after stepping into degree, I started exploring and searching for inspirations very quickly. I mostly used Pinterest as my main source of acquiring information and pictures for my inspiration. I made various mock-up models for this project, and I am grateful that my tutor guided me to the right direction. I actually found it interesting and amusing while learning and researching about different principles and elements while completing my work. I also enjoyed the process of making the models by experimenting with different materials.

Reflection

TGC 1.0 : Discipline Specific Knowledge
TGC 2.0 : Lifelong Learning
TGC 3.0 : Thinking and Problem-Solving skills
TGC 7
.0 : Citizenship and Global Perspectives

From completing the first assignment, I have acquired all the Taylor's Graduate Capabilities (TGC)s above. First of all, I got to be able to conduct researches as well as was able to put theories into practice. I also got to locate, extract, synthesize and utilize information effectively by being intellectually engaged. Besides, I also got to think critically and creatively by defining and analyzing problems to arrive at effective solutions. I also got to learn to be aware of and form opinions from diverse perspectives by receiving constructive criticism. In conclusion, the whole process of this assignment was enjoyable as I got to showcase my ideas and creativity, while at the same time I got to further develop my researching and modelling skills, as well as learn more about design principles.
