MY AD1 JOURNEY
Project 2 : Structure and Body: Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration1:1 Bamboo Activity Structure
Task 1 : Study on Material, Structure Antropometrics & Ergonomics
This was the only group project in this module. For the first task, we were assigned to research, explore and understand materials’ characteristics. The main material we had to use was bamboo, as well as supporting materials such as rope, steel or tensile fabric. We also had to study on antropometrics and ergonomics. We were required to record measurements of our body, such as height, head dimension, shoulder, limbs, floor to knee/hips/abdomen, height in tip toe position, stretching arms position, etc. We also had to record measurements of the space required for the structure.
Task 2 : Idea Exploration, tests models & prototypes
After researching and measuring, We had to develop design ideas through scaled study models and prototypes, in order to explore about architectural elements and principles with anthropometry and ergonomics.
Task 3 : Building Bamboo Structure
After going through a long designing process, we had to start the planning of equipment and construction sequence. We had to make sure the site was manageable, as well as how to construct the bamboo structure in transportable parts to be assembled in green dormant space.
Task 4 : Drawing, Final Model Asembly and Presentation
After the structure was completed, We had to make the final model, in order to produce orthographic drawings and presentation board composition. There was also a verbal presentation with video recording of 1:1 structure’s engagement, scaled model and drawings.
My Progress
Since this was a group assignment with a larger amount of people, it was a bit messy at first, but I am glad the group came as one in the process. I visited the site with my groupmates, and started exploring and searching for ideas. I exchanged ideas with my groupmates, as well as started working on mock-up models together. Even though it was frustrating, it was good to see how much changes the design goes through after receiving feedback. The whole process of the construction of the 1:1 structure was fun. I got to get hands-on experiences as well as got to get closer with my groupmates. It was a lot of fun even though we did not get much sleep. The presentation process was not entirely smooth, but everything turned out better than expected in the end.
