Project 2: Sketching Analysis

Task 1 : Selecting Buildings

For the first task, I was assigned to conduct a research and architectural analysis on selected buildings. I was assigned to select five buildings from the given list.

Buildings that I have selected :

Pre Historic : Stonehenge

Ancient Egyptian : Pyramids of Giza

Ancient Greece and Rome : The Colosseum

Middle Ages and Renaissance : St. Peter’s Basilica

Task 2 : Sketches Booklet

After selecting the buildings, I was required to make an A4 sketches booklet to document the heritage buildings. I used notes and diagrams as evidence. The sketchbook can be divided into several items such as introduction, fast facts of the building, building name, location, function, history of the building, the architect, architectural layout of building, plan to section or elevation analysis, circulation to use-space, organization analysis, building construction, structure & materials analysis and architectural elements / components.

I used google and pinterest as my main source of acquiring information and references about the buildings.

My Progress

The whole progress of this assignment was actually not as challenging as I expected it to be. This assignment was self-explanatory and straightforward which made it easier to understand and work with. Besides, I actually found it interesting and amusing while learning and researching about buildings that I wanted to use. I also enjoyed the process of drawing the buildings, even though they were very time consuming. I was quite satisfied with the outcome of the pieces. I did struggled a little with the layout and arrangements at first, but I am glad I managed to fit everything properly and neatly in the end.

TGC 3.0 : Problem Solving, Critical and Creative Thinking Skills

TGC 4.0 : Communication Skills

From completing assignment 2, I have acquired Taylor's Graduate Capabilities (TGC) 3.0 and 4.0 which is Problem Solving Critical and Creative Thinking Skills and Communication Skills. For this assignment, I had to think critically and creatively by planning the layout, as well as define and analyze the problems to arrive at effective solutions. Because of that, I got to improve my critical thinking skills and expand my creativity by thinking out of the box to come out with different ideas and strategies. I also managed to gain the ability to communicate appropriately in various settings, as well as improve my patience to keep trying until I got everything accurately. Overall, it wasn't an entirely smooth process as I had to juggle other assignments at the same time but I am glad I got to experience this assignment as it was still a fun experience for me.
